Director, Electrical Engineering

Department: Engineering - RI
Location: Middletown, RI

Role Summary

Engineering Director Middletown, RI headquarters. This person will be faced with enhancing the overall function and performance of the Engineering Department This position will include organizing the department’s activities to support the various development and research initiatives and production efforts of KVH. In addition, this person will be responsible for overseeing and supporting all departmental functions relative to the completion of mechanical design including concept and estimating input, incorporating electrical & controls requirements into the final design, and supporting the mechanical field installation as needed.

The Director of Engineering will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer. The ideal candidate for this position will possess extensive technical knowledge, as well as strong interpersonal/management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team, ensuring proper work flow, available resources and quality control
  • Coordinate with other departments to prioritize work load and ensure on time delivery
  • Manage, lead and develop design department staff for higher level assignments
  • Schedule and maintain engineering support for production
  • Design and development of analog and digital circuitry for satellite antenna and receiver applications
  • Perform circuit design functions including testing, debugging and integration for satellite tracking systems.  Including 8/16/32 bit microprocessor based designs, computer interfaces, analog to digital conversion, power and I/O communications design, and motion control applications
  • Establish and define the theoretical basis and principles that should apply and estimated time, expense and manpower for completion of all tasks
  • Analyze, evaluate and plan methods of approach and organize the means to achieve solutions for complex technical problems
  • Schematic capture, simulation and PCB layout using Altium Tools
  • Document all circuit and system designs, specifications and test plans
  • Complete engineering documentation through ECN release
  • Provide information and technical support from Engineering to other departments
  • Mentor lower level engineers; as applicable

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 8 ~ 10 years of experience, with 4+ years managing staff
  • Experience with digital communications, analog and digital signal processing and RF circuit design for embedded products
  • Experience in reading and understanding software written in C
  • Solid understanding of processes required to design cost effective system solutions for consumer electronic products including design validation test planning
  • Proficient in the use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; for mentoring and participating in scrum environment
  • Knowledge of CAD packages is required
  • Working knowledge of motion control systems is helpful
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (TN visa not accepted)
